The Coast Academy of Dance wrapped up the dance season last weekend with their annual year-end performance, Dancin' Through Town, at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt. It was once again a huge success.

The students danced their way through a fast-paced, two and a half hour show. The younger students were highlighted in the first act along with the pre-professional dancers (Meghan Campbell, Tarah Kalman, Michelle Millican and Kristie Sita) playing the leading roles.

The second half took the audience on a whirlwind trip to different cities around the world. The quality of the choreography was due to the talents of faculty Ivana Cappelletto, Sammie Broomhall, Terra Dannes, Kathleen Holmes, Shirley Jackson, Rebecca Izad, Chris Wong, manager Christina Fitchett and director Julie Izad.

The Coast Academy would like to thank everyone involved in the preparation of this amazing production. It has become an annual event that is cherished by the community and it is the community that makes it possible.

The school would like to recognize every single dancer who performed in the show. Everyone worked as a team and came together to create something very special. Their talent and passion is inspirational.

The school has also recently had their annual exam session where more than 40 students took exams in tap and modern. Amongst them were graduating pre-professional students: Meghan, Tarah, Michelle and Kristie who were successful in obtaining their ISTD teaching diploma. This qualification is recognized all around the world. These students have been part of a three-year program where they have worked intensively towards becoming dance teachers and preparing for other advanced dance programs and auditions to become professional dancers.

The Coast Academy teaches all types of dance to all age groups. The school is now closed, but there are numerous dance workshops during the summer. Registration for the 2013/2014 season will take place Sept. 3 to 7 at the studio at 5645 Wharf Ave. in Sechelt. More details can be found at www.coastdance.com.
