The Source Dance Company - 21 high energy performers from Vancouver - took the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse stage by storm last Sunday.

Their production, Lost, brought to the Coast in collaboration with the Sunshine Coast Dance Society, performed excerpts from Stranded, to debut in July, a longer piece based on the television show Lost.

The group ripped through an hour of jam packed dancing with speed and vitality. Several danced solos, but although Coast dancer Sammie Broomhall, now part of the company, did not dance a solo, the choreography was designed that she, like others, had her moment in the spotlight. Among the various styles: jazz, hip hop and contemporary, five of the dancers included tap dance, and they pounded out a hard driving beat that proved an audience pleaser. Highlights included a dramatic opening piece, The Nightmare, choreographed by Source's artistic director Joanne Pesusich. The stranded dancers turned a feeding frenzy into complex movement in The Search for Food, a particularly compelling narrative choreographed by Moe Brody. Another piece, The Night Before, choreographed by So You Think You Can Dance Canada winner Nico Archembault along with Wynn Holmes, was also highly entertaining in its approach.
