David King invites you to his imaginative solo show, Small Guitar (Celebration of a Life in an Alternate Universe). A retired ferry worker talks about life in an alternate universe where he was a pop star – written and performed by King at the Arts Building, 464 South Fletcher, Gibsons on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Elves live

The annual Elves Club Telethon runs from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Heritage Playhouse and on Coast TV. Tune in or drop in with a donation to the performance.

Goodnight Sunshine is the story of a disenchanted middle-aged family man who finds an intriguing message about a potentially world-changing invention, leading him to the jungles of Ecuador. In his debut novel, author Mark Cameron speculates on what could happen if a solution to the world’s energy needs fell into the right – or wrong – pocket. Cameron will read from his novel at the Gibsons Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Based in Gibsons, he can be found expressing his opinions online at markofwords.com

Winter Faire

Sunhaven Waldorf School presents their 13th annual Winter Faire on Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s complete with magical gnome gardens, delicious soups and breads, a bake sale, children’s store, wish trees, performances and more. Roberts Creek Sunhaven Waldorf School is at Margaret Road and Beach Avenue.

Art show

Four artists have prepared new work for a show in a private home on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at 223 Camp Rd. (at Bonniebrook), Gibsons. Mildred Doubt, Ines Tancre, Nancy McMurdo and George Doubt invite you to their exhibition.

From Joni to Star Wars

Last chance to see the Gibsons Public Art Gallery show is coming up on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Drop in for poetry, music from performers including Luci Herder, the Still Smokin’ Joni’s band and dance from Dominique’s School. Admission is by donation.

Come Dec. 11, fans of Star Wars will be delighted when the force will transform the gallery into a holiday special of toys, collectibles, special effects and workshops. On Dec. 11 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Will Maher, the Lead VFX Instructor at the Art Institute of Vancouver, will present a talk on the visual effects of Star Wars films.

Choir concert

On Sunday, Dec. 6 the Pender Harbour Choir presents A Merry Little Christmas: a program of seasonal music by ensembles and soloists, from 2 to 4 p.m. for $20 at the School of Music, Madeira Park. Landing show

The Landing Gallery show in Gibsons titled Journey to Now showcases artist Alison J. Taylor, featuring abstract and representational work, painted primarily in oil. Also showing is Small Works, an exhibition and holiday sale of gallery members’ artwork, all no larger than 12x12 and no more than $150.

Felter’s studio

Felter Ursula Bentz is at home in her studio this weekend, Dec. 5 and 6, and again on Dec. 12 and 13 from noon to 3 p.m. to show her warm felted works such as hats and accessories, on sale. Come to 499 Marine Dr., with its studio on the back lane, or phone 604-886-0248 for directions.

Calle Verde

Calle Verde and the Sunshine Coast Dance Society are pleased to present Calle Verde: Flamenco, an evening of inspiring, original flamenco music and dance at the Heritage Theatre in Gibsons on Friday, Dec. 11. The show also offers a silent auction to support the Dance Society. Sostenuto
