Singing will greet filmgoers as they arrive at the Heritage Playhouse on Tuesday, May 5, and it will continue into the theatre, inviting the audience to participate.

A local song circle will lead the way; the group helps raise money for the Isecheno School project, providing girls in Kenya with an education. The Sunshine Coast Film Society will screen The Singing Revolution, a film about the role singing had as a major unifying force for Estonians while they endured 50 years of Soviet rule. Most people don't think about singing when thinking about revolutions, but in Estonia song was the weapon of choice between 1987 and 1991 when Estonians wanted to end decades of Soviet occupation. This story has been playing to ovations in theatres around the world. That's on May 5, at 7:30 p.m. As a special event, season members will pay $7.50, and a single event ticket is $10.50. Myths for Profit

The Myths for Profit, Canada's Role in Industries of War and Peace six-week cross country screeningand discussion tour is stopping in Sechelt on Saturday, May 2, one of 41 communitieson the tour.The local screening is sponsored by the SunshineCoast Peace Group and will be held at École du Pacifique Library in Sechelt at 8 p.m.

Sunday market

The 11th annual Gibsons Landing Sunday Market will enjoyits opening daythis Sunday, May 3.Starting this year the group of local artisans and producers will showcase an artist or professional each week in a demonstration tent. New vendors have joined to help broaden product variety and there are several returning from past years.Quality and variety, interesting and fresh products are the goals.They are always looking for new vendors, particularly produce. Elements

Elements, a show by artists Shelley Stunell and Wendy Simmonds, opens at the Harbour Gallery in Madeira Park today (Friday) and runs until May 14. An artists' reception will be held on May 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. All are welcome.

Fibre arts

Fibreworks Studio and Gallery presents a showcase of fibre arts by FAN (Fibre Arts Network) from today (Friday) until June 28 at the gallery, 12887 Sunshine Coast Highway, Madeira Park. Golf comedy

The Foursome, the comic play, is back by popular demand.

C.E. Productions presents the story of four golfing buddies who will perform at the Heritage Playhouse for two nights Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16. You probably won't improve your golf swing, but go for a good laugh. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 at Hallmark Cards and Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons.

Mimosa

The Sunshine Coast Jazz and Entertainment Society presents a CD release concert for Méli Mélo from Mimosa with special guest Celso Machado at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse on Saturday, May 9 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, available at Coast Books, Gibsons; Roberts Creek Health Foods, WindSong Gallery in Sechelt or at the door.
