Whether you are interested in the arts, wish to support our toddlers on the Sunshine Coast or simply would like to enjoy a beautiful event on Bonniebrook Beach, Art on the Beach is a show you don't want to miss.

Five award-winning local artists will exhibit their works at Chaster House on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Artists can be watched live at work.

The Chaster House Parent-Tot Drop-In will benefit from the proceeds to purchase educational books and toys. The eclectic group of sculptor Don Watson, oil painter Marleen Vermeulen from Holland, multi-media artist Miyuki Shinkai from Japan, photographer Vene Parnell from Latvia and glass blower Wayne Harjula from England have fascinated the public in many ways.

Watson is known as the mold builder for the Calgary Cow Parade or the Victoria Harbour Ferry. Luxury yacht owners all over the Lower Mainland enjoy his sought-after artistic fibreglass applications and designs. His wildlife sculptures are collected in Europe, U.S and Canada.

Vermeulen, a former top designer for the London corporate world, excels at oil-based paintings. While she created abstracts in the past, she now focuses on the self-defined concept of the human body and a series of flowers and more impressionist West Coast nature paintings.

Parnell has reached an international audience with the publication of her two books The Beachcombers in 1984 and A Portrait of Gibsons in 2004. Her photographs have won prizes at the Sunshine CoastArts Centre and CBC Broadcasting.

Shinkai and Harjula run the well-known Mellon Glass Studio in Langdale. Miyuki is a recognized Canadian-Japanese artist who produces collage/paintings and glass installations. Harjula graduated from Farnham College of glass design in England with BA honours in glass. He has since travelled the world with his wife Miyuki and established several successful glass studios.

Proceeds will finance books and toys for the Chaster House Parent-Tot-Drop-In, a parent self-initiative.

Admission to the event is free.
