Vivaldi Chamber Choir will present a concert titled Shake-speare's Songbook at St. Hilda's by the Sea Anglican Church in Sechelt this Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m.
The programme features choral settings of songs from Shakespeare's plays, music from 1600 to the present, including songs by Huub de Lange, Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day and All the World's a Stage, as well as the beautiful Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind by John Rutter.
The concert includes selected readings of the Bard's words by actor Paul Toolan. Shakespeare wrote his own song lyrics (often intended to be sung to well known tunes), and he imported popular songs into his plays as well. This programme explores a variety of treatments of the Bard's oeuvre, running the gamut from period settings to recent compositions.
Tickets are $15, available at the Sechelt Visitor Centre, Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts, St. Hilda's Church office and at the door. Further info from: vivaldichoir.org or call 604-221-0665.
