Digital delights
The Art Centre's Doris Crowston Gallery in Sechelt presents computer and digital art by local artists Bodhi Drope and Michael T. Hertz in a show running from Nov. 2 through 29. The artists' reception is on Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. and all are invited.
Drope, a well-known artist in sculpture, printmaking, photography and computer art, is co-author of Paddling the Sunshine Coast. He recently presented a proposal to the Gibsons Public Arts Advisory Commission for a sculpture for the new RCMP building. His show focuses on images from his personal photo library manipulated with PhotoShop: Microcosms of Planet Earth, an exploration of the mandala form using nature photography; Birding Encounters, an expression of his life-long love of birds; and Landscapes of the Soul, a mystical garden reflecting insights into the human drama.
Hertz is a writer with a great love for 3D and digital computer art. His work concentrates on his illustrated novel, Spaghetti Western, using three-dimensional software and PhotoShop. Part of his work includes a detailed description on how illustrations were developed using software programs Poser 8 and Vue 6. Examples of Drope's work can be found at www.sunshinecoastartists.org/Bodhi_Drope.htm, and of Michael Hertz's work at http://charterbooks.net/8.html.
