Sechelt author Andrew Scott is launching his landmark work The Encyclopedia of Raincoast Place Names: A Complete Reference to Coastal British Columbia in Sechelt and Madeira Park next week.

The launch in Sechelt is on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, with the launch in Madeira Park on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. at the Blue Waters Book Company.

The Encyclopedia of Raincoast Place Names is a fascinating collection of B.C. coastal stories, many of which are unknown and have never been published. Scott, explores the origins of B.C. coastal place names and writes of the entertaining and adventurous inhabitants of this land.

The book is also a celebration of the hundredth anniversary of Captain John T. Walbran's landmark work, British Columbia Coast Names, as it is the first book to update Walbran's classic. Walbran reportedly worked on his opus for ten years and produced some 1,500 entries. Scott worked on his for three years and produced 4,000 entries.

Richly illustrated with photos and maps, this book is a must-have guide for boaters and mariners and a standard companion for anyone interested in B.C. history. It also makes a fine shelf-mate for the Encyclopedia of British Columbia.
