Jazz and blues artist Colleen Savage has been active in the Vancouver jazz scene for 30 years.
Many Gibsons music fans will remember the Mother of Pearl band's performances at Gibsons jazz festivals. She has performed at all of Canada's major jazz festivals, toured with her own ensembles and has recorded four albums, most recently Algiers, recorded last year in New Orleans.
She is excited to bring her SingShop workshop to Gibsons for a full day session on Saturday, May 5, at The Garage, at 537 Veterans Rd.
The morning will focus on technique and skills - basic vocal technique and musicianship skills. Singers will brush up on producing good tone and resonance, the healthy natural vocal sound unique to each individual.
Then the group will refresh its understanding of basic harmonies through familiar blues-based song forms and sing great tunes from the worlds of gospel, rhythm and blues and world beat repertoire.
The afternoon will be a master class where singers get into individual expression through a favourite tune. Sasha Fassaert will provide guitar accompaniment, and within a very supportive atmosphere, every singer will benefit from the coaching that each singer's performance receives.
Participants are asked to bring their simple, clear chart in the morning so Fassaert can look it over beforehand. (Savage will provide assistance with preparing a music chart for people who would like that. Please arrange for this when you register.)
For more information or to register, call 604-255-0776 or email [email protected] Space is limited. The fee for the workshop is $75.
