Sunshine Coast music lovers have a rare opportunity to hear internationally acclaimed cellist Phoebe Carraiperform cello suites by J.S. Bach, in two unusual concert settings next week.

Carrai performs at Music on the Rock at Willow Farm, Friday, Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. and at the Community Centre on Gambier Island, Saturday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m.Known for her superb articulation, exquisite musical phrasing, and rich, burnished sound Carrai's recordings of the Bach Cello Suites are highly prized.A native Bostonian, Carrai started playing the cello at the age of 10. She fell in love with the Baroque cello and the Early Music Movement whilst a student of Lawrence Lesser at The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where she earned both her bachelor and master of music degrees. She studied historical performance practice with Nicolaus Harnoncourt at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.For 10 years, she performed exclusively with the world-famous ensemble Musica Antiqua Koln, touring and teaching in The United States, Scandinavia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South America. Now living in the United States again, Carrai appears both in chamber music and as an international soloist and performs with The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (Nicholas McGegan); Les Musiciens de Louvre (Marc Minkowski) and The Handel and Haydn Society (Grant Llewellyn). Phoebe Carrai has recorded for Aetma, Deutsche Grammophon, Harmonia Mundi, Telarc, Decca and BMG. She performs on an anonymous Italian cello from c 1690.Tickets for the Willow Farm concert are $20.
