Quantum group to show movie, The Take

The newly formed group Quantum Consciousness held its first meeting Jan. 11 at St. Hilda's Anglican Church to share ideas, hopes and inspirations for the coming year.

The newly formed group Quantum Consciousness held its first meeting Jan. 11 at St. Hilda's Anglican Church to share ideas, hopes and inspirations for the coming year. There was general agreement among the more than 60 participants that the forum provided a spiritual home for those seeking to explore and share ideas and experiences in a safe, open environment.

It was agreed to meet on a regular basis, every second and fourth Wednesday of each month, at 7 p.m. at the church. The overall aim of the group is to deepen awareness and learn about the forces that affect our lives, both as individuals and socially. Programs will include educational films, speakers and interactive experiences such as meditation techniques, music, chanting and other integrative processes.

"Through a combined process of learning, contemplation and action, we can help to build a more spiritually aware community that can be a positive force, both locally and globally," says Michael Siddall, a local magazine publisher.Rev. Mark Lemon, rector of St. Hilda's who co-founded the group last fall with Siddall, added, "We're going through a defining moment in the history of the human race, and the decisions and choices we make personally and socially will determine the kind of future our children are going to inherit. Quantum consciousness is intended to assist us in choosing a positive future."

The next event, to be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, will be a screening of the internationally acclaimed film, The Take, directed by documentary filmmaker Avi Lewis. It's a story of human triumph, how unemployed factory workers in Argentina reclaimed their jobs by taking over abandoned factories. It offers a model for those dealing with the downside of globalization.

Lewis, whose father is the well-known Canadian U.N. diplomat Steven Lewis, makes his home on the Sunshine Coast and will attend the screening to speak about the making of the movie and its implications for the global economy. The screening will be a fundraising event to help the quantum consciousness forum acquire audio-visual equipment. A donation of $10 would be appreciated.
