Clayworks

Creek Clayworks is having their annual Christmas pottery sale and studio open house this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23 and 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Elaine Futterman and Mike Allegretti invite you to join them for a studio completely filled with pottery, including new work from the salt kiln.

Art show

Local artist Patricia Collier is holding a show and sale of her original oil paintings of floral, still life and landscape subjects this Saturday, Nov. 23, from noon to 5 p.m. in Lower Gibsons. Music at Arts Centre

David J. Taylor performs a set of original music on guitar and piano at the Arts Centre in Sechelt, this Saturday, Nov. 23.

Simon Paradis and Joe Stanton will start off the evening. Taylor reports an amazing first year on the Sunshine Coast, living and creating in the purple house in Sechelt. After spending the last 12 years as a singer-songwriter/recording artist, award-winning record producer and audio post engineer living on the prairies, he moved back to B.C. from Saskatchewan in late 2012. He has co-written a number of songs with Paradis in numerous musical styles.Admission is $10 at the door.

Shakespeare

Richard II is the first live cinema broadcast via HD satellite from the stage at Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's hometown. On Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt presents Richard II from the Royal Shakespeare Company with David Tennant in the title role and directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran. Tickets at $15 (general) and $10 (child 9 to 17) are available by calling 604-885-4597.

Tree challenge

O Tannenbaum, an exhibition at the Landing Gallery (436 Marine Dr. in Gibsons) is on show from now until January.

Ode to the Tree is a collection of small worksby painter and artisan members who have been challenged to work on a theme of "trees." This collection of small 10" x 10" panels will be displayed as a cluster in the main gallery.

Dissections launch

You are cordially invited to the Gibsons Public Library on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. when Gambier Island sculptor/artist Geoffrey Smedley will talk about his book Dissections. The book is a wonderful attack on humankind viewed as a machine, and consists of 100 one-page commentaries on 100 striking photographs of dissected parts of Smedley's sculpture, Descartes' Clown. The Clown itself is a metaphorical robotic machine; four sections of it were exhibited this year at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. Reel Youth

The Reel Youth Film Festival is a touring collection of short films that are youth-made and youth-juried.While screening short films by young people under 20, the festival tours in partnership with youth media organizations, high schools, community groups and other established film festivals.It kicks off at the Vancouver International Film Festival and goes on to tour across Canada and around the world.

The deadline for submission is Feb. 28. Anyone under 20 may submit. This is an opportunity foryoung artists to express their creativity, entertain audiences, and share their visions for a more just and sustainable world.
