Artists Tamara Phillips, Barbara Moustafa and Marlene Lowden will be showing their work until Feb. 16.

Zocalo clothing store in Lower Gibsons will be the site of a pop-up artists’ studio until Feb. 16. When Zocalo owner Joann Hetherington closes in February, she likes to hand her space over to artists to show their work. This year Christine Turner from Embellish Emporium has set up shop to sell her new and vintage items including her signature Fat Paint, but the real stars of the show are three artists: Marlene Lowden and Barbara Moustafa who live on the Coast and Tamara Phillips from Victoria. The public can shop in the store, view the artwork or take a workshop with any one of the three.

Lowden’s Freedom to Paint class is offered on Sunday, Feb. 7 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and it will be the first session in a two-class workshop.

“It’s for those who are new to art,” Lowden said, “and want to know if they can go on to more advanced classes.” Lowden’s colouring book for adults will also be for sale along with Phillips’ art cards.

Phillips will be giving a class titled The Art of Coloured Water on Sunday, Feb. 7 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Moustafa will give a mixed media art class on Tuesday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All workshops will be held at the store, 441 Marine Drive, Gibsons. You can register for them by phoning Embellish Emporium at 604-886-0168 or emailing [email protected]
