The PK3 Jazz Trio featuring Sechelt's Kristian Braathen on drums, returns to the Coast on Saturday night.

PK3 was last seen on the Coast at last year's Pender Harbour Jazz Festival where they put on a fantastic show. For fans of traditional and modern acoustic jazz, tomorrow night's concert, set for 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre is one not to be missed.

While living on the Coast, Braathen played with local bands and studied with various teachers both on the Coast and in Vancouver. After graduating from Chatelech Secondary School, Braathen went on to study music at Capilano University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies. During his studies at Capilano University, he took a couple of hiatus's from school to perform on cruise ships in Tahiti, Mexico and the Caribbean. Later, he toured with the Russell Jackson Band (former bassist with BB King). While on tour with Jackson, he was also privileged to share the stage with Matt Guitar Murphy (guitarist from the Blues Brothers movies) and Donald Harrison (saxophonist with Art Blakey, Tony Williams, Terence Blanchard and many other jazz legends).

Now he has focused his efforts on putting together the PK3 Jazz Trio. This is a piano based jazz trio, featuring good friends Paul Miyai on piano and Karlis Silins on acoustic bass. The members of the PK3 Jazz trio met during their studies at Capilano University and have performed together over the course of the last 10 years. This trio performs intricate arrangements of jazz standards as well as some original music. The PK3 trio has a sound influenced by The Oscar.

Tickets for Saturday's concert are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors and will be sold at the door only. Doors open at 7 p.m.
