Following his inspiring appearances last year, pianist Peter Arnstein is returning to the Coast the weekend of July 20 for two fundraising concerts.

This distinguished international performer and award-winning composer presents an eclectic program ranging from classical gems to whimsical jazz.

Arnstein also brings the Canadian debut of his composition inspired by the great rain forests of the Sunshine Coast: Hypnotico: Under the Shade of the Cedar Trees.

A virtuoso of the piano and harpsichord, Arnstein has toured extensively throughout North America, and has been invited many times to perform as a soloist at the prestigious Edinburgh Music Festival.

A frequent soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, his performances have been described as "brilliantly virtuosic and sensitively nuanced."

As a composer, he is a prolific contributor to the chamber music repertoire. In 1991, his work for chamber orchestra, Variations on a Theme by Mozart, awarded him the gold medal for the best composition in all categories at the Roodeport, South Africa, International Composition Competition.

His first concert is Saturday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Highland Centre (657 Highland Rd.) in Roberts Creek and is a fundraiser for Music 46 initiatives, which supports music education.

The second concert is Sunday, July 21, at 2 p.m. at the Pender Harbour School of Music in support of the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for those 18 and under, available for both shows at Harbour Insurance in Madeira Park, John Henry's in Garden Bay, the Sechelt Visitor Information Centre, Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons, Laedeli in Sunnycrest Mall, MELOmania in Roberts Creek and at the door.
