Coast Phoenix Singers are delighted that Coast resident Michael Grice has agreed to be their new music director.
Like his predecessor Bill Bourns, who passed away this year, Grice is a very experienced choral director who lives in Roberts Creek and continues to direct Coquitlam's Coastal Sound Academy adult choir on Tuesday evenings.
Coast Phoenix Singers rehearse on Thursdays. The group welcomes men and women who love to sing to attend their first rehearsal with Grice and accompanist Kelly Smit at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Christenson Village lower level activity room (Shaw Road, Gibsons). For more information, contact Pat Catherwood at [email protected] or 604-886-8244.
Film Society at two locations
Members of the Sunshine Coast Film Society living in the Sechelt area have wanted to see the diverse and eclectic films screened at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse closer to home. The non-profit society has decided to take on the challenge with a pilot expansion to the Sechelt area. They will be screening two featured films this fall, and two again in the winter/spring season at the Sechelt Seniors Centre (5604 Trail Ave). You can view the film line-up at www.scfs.ca. Season memberships will be sold at both venues.
Coming to both Gibsons and Sechelt, the SC Film Society presents a Canadian film, Starbuck, by director Ken Scott, in French with English subtitles.
Perennially adolescent 40-year-old David Wazniak's past catches up with him when he discovers he has fathered 533 children from sperm donations he made 20 years ago. Great heart, great story and great fun at the Heritage Playhouse on Monday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. then at Sechelt on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. Annual members: $5 and single event admission: $8.
