Creek in December
December was a successful and memorable month to end 2016 in Roberts Creek, writes Dee McCuaig, Roberts Creek Hall manager. Thanks to the energy and time of so many volunteers, the Hall hosted two amazing events. The RCCA annual Christmas Craft Fair, coordinated by Charlene Hay, Amanda Walker and Chef Martin brought many people to Roberts Creek to experience the amazing variety of local artisans. The eighth annual Christmas Dinner potluck on Christmas Day was enjoyed by over 200 people who shared turkey dinner with many scrumptious offerings by the appreciative people who attended and tasty desserts by Roberts Creek businesses. A huge thank you to coordinator Debra Dee, Chef Robbie, the local grocery stores who donated turkeys, all the volunteers and the musicians who took time out from their own family and friends to assist in making this important annual event memorable for many people.
Waterworks wrap-up
This year’s Sechelt Arts Festival exhibition Waterworks was well attended with over 1,600 visitors including many school tours. Diego Samper’s water-inspired Dreamscapes painting on sculpted canvas will be exhibited at the North Vancouver City Hall this January and February. You can also see his collection of artifacts and stories at Amazonia, beginning March at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver.
The Freefall interactive fibre art waterfall that was a show stopper in October (created by Deb Dumka, Kim Fenton, Kerri Luciani and Yvonne Stowell) found a new exhibit space in Powell River during November and December and will be part of a featured fibre art show in Vancouver in the spring.
