The Sunshine Coast Dance Society will wind up an active year with their annual gala fundraiser and tribute to Coast choreographers and dancers at Chatelech Theatre in Sechelt on Saturday, Nov. 26, with two performances at 2 and 7 p.m.

Dancing to the many facets of jazz, Night Moves will feature new dance works from eight Coast choreographers and more than 24 dancers with an eclectic mix of hip hop, tap, modern and lyrical dance styles. The music will span the generations from the origins of American jazz, blues and the big band sound to modern electro funk and rock jazz derivatives. Special guest Gerardo Avila will entertain in his magical style as master of ceremonies, as well as Coast jazz musicians.

Coast choreographers Shirley Jackson, Christina Fitchett, Julie Izad, Brittany Robertson and Frankie Cottrell will be joined by Vancouver's Sammie Broomhall and Chris Wong to present a jam-packed program of original work.

As a further tribute to the late SC Dance Society founder, Lois Smith, the 7 p.m. evening gala performance will be prefaced by a champagne reception starting at 6. As well, there will be a silent auction throughout the day to raise funds for annual student scholarships and 2012 artist workshop programs.

Tickets are $20, students and seniors $15, at Gaia's Fair Trade and Laedeli in Gibsons, MELOmania in Roberts Creek and Pretty Natty Duds in Sechelt.
