New book club for Millennials at Sechelt Library

Book Club

Sechelt’s chief librarian Margaret Hodgins is starting a book club for Coasters in the Millennial Generation on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. beginning on Feb. 17 at the Sechelt Public Library.

“Starting with a meet-up at the library, I hope we can attract some people who will bring a friend and discuss ideas we can make happen,” Hodgins said. “We are purchasing a book club set of Jonathan Goldstein’s I’ll Seize the Day Tomorrow to start the conversation.”

Hodgins said she was inspired by a trend in urban libraries to engage the community of readers in their 20s and 30s. She saw the need to reach out to young people on the Coast and wanted to facilitate social engagement as well as – of course – reading.

It’s not necessary to have read the book before the first meeting – just show up, meet everyone else and enjoy yourself in a relaxed atmosphere.

The first meeting is Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. in the library; Hodgins said the time and place are flexible to accommodate people’s schedules.
