The 2017 Coast Recital Society (CRS) scholarships were recently awarded to eight local students, ages 13 to 19, to further their study of classical music.
Violinist Hannah Crudele received the Ross Brougham Award, given annually to the student with the highest mark from the CRS Scholarship Committee. The award is named after Ross Brougham, a great music lover, who served as treasurer of the CRS for many years. Hannah is currently studying violin in Ottawa under the tutelage of Yehonatan Berick.
Other scholarships were awarded to pianists Nadia Behji, Béla Ord and Emily Picard, guitarist Heather Benko and violinists Simon Gidora, Hannah Marincak and Ariana Mason.
In addition, four CRS Adjudicator’s Choice Awards were awarded as part of this year’s Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts: Matthew Douglas, piano; Christine Dyson, percussion-winds-brass; and Simon Gidora, strings and voice.
CRS scholarships are funded from the sale of CDs at CRS concerts and from the proceeds from unused CRS tickets returned for resale. CRS scholarship applications are accepted in January and February of each year and are open to Sunshine Coast students, 25 years or younger, who are studying classical music.
