Spontaneous, playful and off the wall - these attributes all describe Coco Love Alcorn. Her concerts engage the audience with that eye to eye contact, which makes everyone feel she's singing just for them. Her seductive alto voice, which extends over a broad stylistic and emotional range, adds to the appeal. But her concerts are mainly fun.

Her next concert is Saturday, April 18 as the Pender Harbour Music Society presents her at the Performance Centre in Madeira Park at 8 p.m.Alcorn was born in Antigonish, NS, into a family of creative and accomplished individuals in all facets of the arts. She grew up there, and between Toronto and Vancouver. Her father, John Alcorn, is an accomplished jazz musician and it comes as no surprise that her first CD was dedicated to jazz vocal standards and entitled We Speak Jazzanesse. Since then she has cut seven more CDs and has moved easily into song writing. Her most recent CD, entitled Joyful, showcases her own compositions with a couple of collaborations with her father. Following her second album, she was noticed by Ani DiFranco and subsequently toured with her in the U.S. She has also been the opening act for Burt Cummings, Chantal Kreviazuk and Jesse Cook. Her songs often make up the soundtrack of popular TV shows such as The L Word and The Dead Zone.

Tickets are $20, available at John Henry's in Garden Bay, Harbour Insurance in Madeira Park, Sechelt Visitor Centre in Sechelt and Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons.
