Music on the Rock at Willow Farm returns this Sunday, July 17 at 3 p.m. with Caffe della Gamba, Renaissance and Baroque music performed by the viola da gamba consort featuring Sarah Tippett and Genevieve MacKay.

Caffe della Gamba seeks to recapture the social spirit of the viola da gamba by presenting an intriguing program of music in an intimate setting -the lovely garden at Willow Farm in West Sechelt. The program will feature music by Renaissance and Baroque composers Michael East, John Coprario, Marin Marais and Carl Friedrich Abel.

Tippett and MacKay are two of Vancouver's most active performers on the viola da gamba -a precursor of the cello, and one of the most popular instruments of the Renaissance and early Baroque periods. Tippett is a member of the Viola da Gamba Society and has performed with the Vancouver Voices Choir and the Baranduin Ensemble She is an active cello teacher both on the North Shore and on the Sunshine Coast and is a great proponent of the viola da gamba both locally and abroad.

MacKay has performed with the UBC Sym-phony Orchestra and the Baranduin Ensemble, of which she is a founding member, and with local rock band Andorra.Genevieve is a volunteer co-ordinator for Early Music Vancouver.?
