Music in the Landing presents its final weekend of live music in Gibsons Landing starting tonight (Friday) from 7 to 8 p.m. in the gazebo on the wharf. TheBilly Hillpicker Bandplays rollicking tunes andharmoniesfrom Teryl Mullock, Murray Wilson on guitars, John Lepore, banjo, and new to the band, Gord Beynon on fiddle.
Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,the Jazz Group of Sevenare in Pioneer Square led by John Frederickson on trumpet, Ken Grunenberg, tenor sax, Carl Montgomery, soprano sax, Steve Giltrow, guitar, Bryan Airth, trombone, Sacha Fassaert, bass, and Tim Enns, drums.
The Saturday evening show from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Winegarden Park will lift your spirits with the Brothers in Farms, high energy musicians with a mix of reggae, funk, Latin and Balkan rhythms. Bring your family and friends, lawn chairs and blankets.
On Sunday it's back at the Sundial Stage from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.with the Verna Chan Quartet as Paul Steenhuis, Sacha Fassaert and John Rule join on vocals for the last afternoon show, next to the Sunday Market.
On Sunday evening the Country Boys and One Gal join with the Sunshine Coast Film Society to open for the Starlight Film Night. Organizer Linda Williams thanks everyone for supporting the music presented by the Town of Gibsons again this year. It has been a truly terrific season. Starlight
Bring your beach blankets and lawn chairs on Sunday, Sept. 1, for the annual free family film night at Winegarden Waterfront Park in Gibsons. This year the MC is Elphinstone Secondary's 2013 valedictorian, Max Crumpler-Haynes.
Don't forget a warm jacket and a flashlight to read your lawn prize ticket stubs. Wallace and Gromit return this year with A Close Shave (1996 Academy Award winner, best short film), a film noted for its ba-a-a-d sense of humour and sheep shots. A Beachcombers episode will be introduced by the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives, whose 40th anniversary exhibit is on display.
Dance performance
As part of their action month at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery, local hula dancer Dhyana Bartkow will be performing a traditional Hawaiian hula by Keia Papa Kaua, plus inviting audience participation this Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Sept. 1, from 2 to 3 p.m., Wendy Crumpler and Bartkow demonstrate NIA, a combination of dance, martial arts and healing arts. Join in. The events are free.
Book club
The Gibsons Public Library book club hosts its end-of-summer session with the book Given by Susan Musgrave on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library.

Nutcracker auditions
The Coasting Along Theatre Society is pleased to announce open auditions for the Coast's second annual presentation of The Nutcrackerballet.
Professional and non-professional dance roles will be cast, including male dance roles.Theatrical roles for adults are also needed, no dance experience required.The 2013 run will include at least six performances featuring more than 100 dancers at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt the week following Christmas.
The auditions will be moderated by Kathleen Holmes and Miguel Nguyen who returns this year as a guest artist and brings with him experience and understanding of the production. Nguyen has spent the past year performing, judging and teaching. He was seen as Albrecht in Giselle, Puck in Midsummer's Night Dream and Philippe in Flames of Paris.
The technical crew, the costume committee, and Cody Chancellor, set designer, have plans in progress. Auditions are on Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Coast Academy of Dance in Sechelt. Ann Willsie will be showing her art in a show, Leaves and Tides, on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Silk Purse Gallery in West Vancouver (John Lawson Park) with the show running until Sept. 22.
