Fans of Gibsons' own Canadian Idol finalist, Sarah Loverock, will be happy to hear that she's launching a new single, The Dreamer, at Video Etc. in Sunnycrest Mall this Saturday, Oct. 17.
She'll be going for gold in Canada - that means selling 5,000 CDs - with a ballad that's different in style than her own compositions. This one is written by the American, Greg Royal, who has years of experience in the industry as a trombonist and who once played with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. He has also been artistic director of the American Youth Symphony and a host and judge of a reality Idol-style TV show, America's Hot Musicians, where contestants compete as instrumentalists, not vocalists.
Last August, Loverock went to a Vancouver recording studio owned by Bryan Adams to sing on a recording with some of the TV show's musical winners. Royal loved her voice so much he wants to release the song solo across Canada to showcase Loverock.
"It's a beautiful song," said Loverock. "His musical knowledge is ridiculous. He's a trained jazz instrumentalist."
Loverock, who works at Smitty's Oyster House in addition to her role as mother, loves this community and knows it has come together in the past to support her.
"There's good community spirit here," she said.
The plan for this Saturday is for Video Etc. owner Russ Snitchuk to host a CD signing and appearance by Loverock from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons. She'll be selling the single song CDs for about $1 each, in hopes of reaching that magical golden number. The first 100 fans will receive a signed poster as well as their CD.
"I've done lots of really fun things so far in my career, but to have a gold record on my resume would be pretty awesome," said Loverock.
Snitchuk is certain the community will support her once again and plans to distribute the CD as widely as possible to Coast stores.
