The ninth annual Commotion by the Ocean on Gambier Island was attended by 900 concert-goers on Saturday night, Aug. 1.

The weather was perfect, the food was good and the entertainment was awesome! The outdoor venue of the Gambier Island Community Centre proved once again to be an ideal setting for a live concert.

The Vancouver Latin Jazz band Locura was the opener for the five band event. The Coast's own Bobby Bruce performed two sets: his well-known tribute as Nearly Neil as well as a set featuring varying Canadian content. A young Vancouver band, Hot Moonbeams, played a full set of covers and originals and were followed by the Sibling Rivals, a constant favourite on Gambier. They truly know how to fill a dance floor (or lawn in this case)!

Some locally-inspired numbers were provided by the resident Gambier Band between sets, which resulted in an exiting concert with solid music for more than five hours.

The event was a well-planned family event, and involved the Gambier Island Community Centre Society, the ANA Vets of Gambier, as well as event organizers, the Harper and Honeywell families of Gambier Island.
