The acting students of Chatelech Secondary School in Sechelt want their comedy production to help the Food Bank.
"We had the idea of a series of short Christmas plays for charity," said Rosi Hunter, student co-ordinator of the approximately 30 kids from Acting 10/11 and 12.
"We want you to really, really laugh out loud."
The classes have combined especially to put on this fundraiser.
"They're all working together as one group," said drama teacher Paddy McCallum proudly.
The production LOLZ (Laugh Out Loud plural) is a series of short sketches by Los Angeles playwright Don Zolidis that will be performed one night only, Dec. 1, at the Chatelech Theatre.
In the skit Santa versus the Garden Gnomes, a few contemporary messages are shared amid the laughter. Santa, who has to give himself a pep talk before the big sleigh ride, refuses to hire garden gnomes in his workshop because he thinks they are lazy - after all, they stand around in the garden all day. His elves support him in not hiring illegal labour. But discrimination is not good and the gnomes get their way.
In The Bestest Christmas Ever in Texas an environmentally conscious mom puts a damper on two sisters who hope for snow at Christmas but get only harsh Texas hail. Ask for what you want, she suggests, and maybe your dreams will come true. Revenge of the Gingerbread Boy and Gangster Claus are also short, funny sketches.
The production also includes some carol singing and cookies for sale from the Foods class to make a festive atmosphere.
Tickets are $5 plus a Food Bank donation of non-perishable goods and can be purchased at the door. Show is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1.
