You can do a “music crawl” this weekend in addition to enjoying the visual delights of the 11th annual Art Crawl. The four Vancouver Symphony Orchestra musicians who make up the Sitka String Quartet will perform at High Beam Dreams in Gibsons on Friday, Oct. 23. The internationally touring foursome will play a program of Nordic folk tunes and the music of Antonin Dvorák, and Caroline Shaw. Doors at 6 p.m., show at 6:30. Tickets at Eventbrite.ca.
An evening of Spanish and South American classical guitar will be featured on Saturday, Oct 24 at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons with a performance by local virtuoso players Josh Searles and Celso Machado. The show is at 7 p.m. Tickets are available through [email protected].
Guitarist Brad Wells plays the atrium at Gibsons Public Market on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. (The market is also an Arts Crawl venue, featuring live art demonstrations by Ben Tour, along with creations by Kerri Luciani and an exhibition of painters Brian Romer and Suzi Naylor.)
Sechelt cover band The Hook rocks the outdoor stage at Roberts Creek Legion on Friday, Oct. 23, 5 to 9 p.m. On Saturday evening, catch the fiddle, banjo and vocals duo High Quadra Ramblers. The Peter Van Trio is in at the Clubhouse Restaurant at Pender Harbour Golf Course on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 2 to 5 p.m.
An immersive Halloween
Gibsons performers and producers Varya Rubin and Bill Moysey are creating something special for this trick-or-treat season. “Halloween 2020: An immersive outdoor experience” will take place over three evenings at Gibsons Heritage Farm on Henry Road, featuring a mix of professional and youth players in physically distanced performances, with audiences guided through the five-acre property. “Picture eerie atmospheric stuff, fire spinners, moments from Phantom of the Opera and Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Witches’ scenes from Macbeth (around a real bonfire!), and other awesome stuff.” And there will be candy stations for the kids. It’s an all-weather show so waterproof outerwear is recommended, and masks – the pandemic-prevention kind – will be mandatory.
