The Sunshine Coast Dance Society (SCDS) is pleased to announce Brianna Stark as the recipient of the society's sixth annual dance residency.

The Sunshine Coast Dance Society (SCDS) is pleased to announce Brianna Stark as the recipient of the society's sixth annual dance residency.

Since 2003 the SCDS has offered to choreographers and performance artist acrossCanadaan opportunity to come to the SunshineCoastfor a week to work in the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse Theatre. During that week,the artist offers workshops to the general public, and presents a show of original work.

This year's workshop is open to all levels of experience and will especially appeal to anyone interested in the arts, creativity, self-expression and development.

"Life/art process is about informing our artistic expression with our lived experiences and engaging in the arts to extend creative possibility and meaning in our lives," said Stark. "I believe the body has an innate wisdom, which we can learn to allow ourselves to be guided by into new territories of awareness and soul."

Stark is a Vancouver-based performance artist. She has danced for Ruth Cansfield Dance Company for six years touring across Canada and in the United States, as well as Independent Choreographers in Win-nipeg from 2000 to '08. She is also a recent graduate of the Tamalpa Institute Teachers training program, 2007 and a Halprin Life/Art Practitioner and expressive arts coach candidate.

Part one of the workshop will be held at the Heritage Playhouse Theatre from6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, and is open to all.

Part two is geared towards those with formal dance training, and participants must take part one of the workshop. Part two will be held from6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2. The cost is $30 for part one and $50 for parts one and two.

Stark will close the residency week with a impressive solo show,Inside I The Butterfly Effect on Saturday, Sept. 5 at8 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door. Adults are $10, children under eight free. Doors open at7:30. For more information contact Shelly at 604-885-3435.
