For the month of May the Gibsons Landing Gallery is featuring the work of Ed Hill. This entire collection of his work, both originals and prints, is on canvas and presents his artwork in a completely different and vibrant way. Peter Sugars shows his fine art wooden boxes — explorations in “captured space” and thinking inside the box. Together these two artists have created a show of colour, texture and emotion.
On the guest artist wall for the month of May is the most recent work of Kris Kristmanson, including his multi-coloured lino blocks and woodblock prints focusing on driftwood, beach forests and ocean rocks.
The opening reception for the three of them will be on Sunday, May 10 at 1 p.m. at the Landing Co-op Gallery (436 Marine Drive, Gibsons).

Art class
Mary Jean Brown offers Big Painting in acrylics and/or watercolour for eight weeks from May 12 to June 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays at her studio in Lower Gibsons.
Work from a personal subject and learn how to trust the premise that she gives you and see where it leads. There will be some drawing involved and lots of painting. You will take home a big painting that you will truly be proud of. And, best of all, you can have no experience or a lifetime of experience. To register, phone 604-886-3849 or see: www.maryjeanbrown.com

My Face is Acting Up!
David Roche is out on the edge again. After 25 years as a pioneering solo performer, actor, author and more, he has heard “You are so courageous!” too many times. He wants the world to know that he actually has a very bad attitude.
He has at last come to terms with his unique face, but now other long-ignored (and resentful) body parts demand attention — especially ones that are aging. Hair has migrated to ears and nose (it’s not hair loss, it’s hair relocation.) Even his toenails have betrayed him.
Hear his act, My Face is Acting Up! on Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gumboot Café, Roberts Creek Road. It’s funny, it’s edgy, all real, it’s about being human, and in the end it’s all about being your beautiful self.
Donna Shugar will open the show. She is recently retired from a very serious occupation and enjoys exploring the lighter side of life. She loves to tell stories about family history especially when they are funny. In Who Says 16 is Sweet? Donna flips pain into humour. Admission is $10 at the door (but no one will be turned away).
