The award-winning Lafayette String Quartet opens the new season for Pender Harbour Music Society on Sunday, Oct. 16.
Renowned as one of Canada's leading ensembles, they are highly acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic for their vitality, technical mastery and insightful interpretation of classical to contemporary works. Local audiences may remember them as the headliners of the 2008 Chamber Music Festival.
In 2011 the Lafayette String Quartet celebrates its 25th anniversary season and its 20th year as artists in residence at the University of Victoria's School of Music.
These dynamic women - Ann Elliott-Goldschmid, violin; Sharon Stanis, violin; Joanna Hood, viola: Pamela Highbaugh Aloni, cello - have inspired audiences and performed to critical acclaim throughout North America and Europe since 1986.
The Lafayette is the only all-female ensemble in the world to comprise the four original members after 25 years - a distinct rarity, regardless of gender and regardless of profession.
The 2 p.m. concert at the School of Music in Madeira Park is presented in collaboration with MusicFest Vancouver and Windsor Plywood Spectacular Music B.C. program.
Tickets are available at Harbour Insurance in Madeira Park, John Henry's Marina in Garden Bay, the Sechelt Visitor Centre and Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons. See www.penderharbourmusic.ca for more details.
