Several children at Kinnikinnick Elementary School became recording artists last week with their single hit Any Kind of Pie.

Musician and children's entertainer Lowry Olafson recorded the previously co-written song with the students as part of his upcoming CD for kids.

"Some schools take ownership of the song and it gets passed down," he said of the 2006 song that has become an anthem at Kinnikinnick.Olafson runs a program called From the Page to the Stage in One Day, where he works with children in schools to teach them how to write a song and then have the opportunity to record it with him. Olafson has used the interactive program with more than 5,000 students across Western Canada to write more than 200 songs. The afternoon concerts that follow the workshop reach entire schools and have inspired and entertained 50,000 more.

The new album will have 18 songs on it, some accompanied by children singing, and will include another Coast school's 2006 song, The Lemons are Coming by Roberts Creek Elementary students.

Olafson anticipates the children's CD, entitled My Dog Ate My Homework, will be released in May.
