Violinist Karen Foster and pianist Val Rutter will perform next Saturday, September 10 at Living Faith Lutheran Church in Davis Bay.

Two Sunshine Coast musicians possessing world-class performance pedigrees who met last year have announced that an upcoming concert will feature their newly-formed KaraVal Duo in concert.

Chicago-born Karen Foster studied violin at Chicago Musical College and has an orchestral career spanning a half-dozen symphonies, including the Vancouver Symphony and performances on CBC Radio. She has also been active as a chamber musician on both violin and viola, and performed with her late husband, clarinetist Wes Foster, at UBC and The Raven’s Cry Theatre.

Val Rutter was born and educated in Birmingham, England. She made her London debut at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square, before launching a career distinguished by festivals, recitals, and broadcasts. A CD release by Rutter and her twin sister Julie earned a nomination for Best Classical Album in the West Coast Music Awards.

The KaraVal duo will present a musical offering of classical, Celtic and movie soundtrack favourites on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2:30 p.m.

The concert takes place at Living Faith Lutheran Church on Whitaker Road and Highway 101 in Davis Bay. Tickets are $25 and available at Strait Music in Sechelt and One Flower, One Leaf in Gibsons.
