On Monday, Aug. 13, veteran Juno award-winning singer, songwriter Shari Ulrich graces the stage at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse.
In some ways, for Ulrich, this is a homecoming. In 1973 she emigrated from the San Francisco Bay area and landed in Gibsons for the first couple of years of her life in Canada. She certainly could not have imagined, at that point, that she would soon find herself embarking on a musical career that would span close to four decades. And she most definitely would never have dreamed that she'd be performing in Gibsons with her daughter, already a seasoned veteran musician at 22. Life indeed unfolds in wondrous ways.
Ulrich has worked extensively in television, won a second Juno award for her solo work, and is a member of the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame. But it is with her trio accompanied by daughter Julia Graff and McGill classmate Ted Littlemore that Ulrich is at her best.
A recent McGill graduate en route to her masters in music in sound recording, Graff has become an integral part of Ulrich's concerts adding accordion, mandolin, guitar, piano and vocals as well.
Littlemore contributes his exceptional piano skills, as well as accordion and vocals. This is their second summer touring as a trio.
"The best band I've ever had," said Ulrich. "The three-part harmonies are heaven, and they're simply a delight on and off stage. I can't believe how lucky I am to work with them."
Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert are $20, available atGaia's Fair Trade and Laedeli in Gibsons and at the door.
