Jazz fest celebrates all week long

The 10th anniversary of Jazz Week in Gibsonsstarts this weekend culminating in the 18th annual festival itself the weekend of June 14 to 16. To celebrate 18 fantastic years of music, festival organizers have an amazing line-up of talent.

To celebrate 18 fantastic years of music, festival organizers have an amazing line-up of talent. It all starts this Saturday, June 8, at 12:30 p.m. at the Gibsons Public Library,followed bya funky, reggae, jazz band that night at the Gibsons Legion.

Sunday afternoon, the Legion willpresentthe newJazz Jam, and that evening you can dine at Chasters and enjoy the sweet jazz duo of Anagram while overlooking a stunning Coast view.

Monday to Thursday will feature live music ata different restaurant everyevening until the festival weekend. Reservations should be made directly with the venues.

"A big change this year in the 18th annual Gibsons Landing Jazz Festival is taking it to the street," said festival chair Linda Williams. "The main stage usually held in Dougall Park will be held on Gower Point Road, on Saturday, June 15, from noon to 5:30 p.m. We'recelebrating withphenomenal and varied jazz and world music groups including Celso Machado, the Lumiere/Penfold Quintet, Hugh Fraser Quintet and Tambura Rasa, on the main stage. A second Bus Stop Stage for the kids with The Legion of Flying Monkeys, street performers and a special streaming live filming of the Festival Dancers will add to the festivities. Community groups, food and craft vendors will line the streets."

Gower Point Road will be closedto through traffic fromthe post office to Molly's Reach. Access to local business will still be open from School Road. Buying a ticket for the day's events will give you a wristband that will get you discounts from participating Landing merchants who will be staging their own festival sidewalk sales.

"With tents and additional seating, we'll be ready for rain or shine," Williams said. "Come out and enjoy the sights and sounds at this new Street Festival day overlooking the stunning Gibsons Harbour."

The kick-off to the Festival Weekend, June 14, features a concert by the Steve Giltrow Quartet at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery.

Saturday night enjoy a delicious treat with the Jazz Group of Seven at Boomers Burger Bar before putting on your dancing shoes for the dance at the Roberts Creek Hall with the 10-piece funk/soul band, Soulstream.

Sunday enjoy Jazz Brunch with Ali Milner at Leo's Tapas & Grill, take in the free Sunday afternoon festival in Winegarden Park with three bands, The Creek Big Band, WAG (a four-piece a capella group) and Mimosa, then wind down the festival weekend with Jazz Vespers at St. Bart's Church from 5 to 6 p.m.
