It's 'upcycled' Sechelt Arts Festival season

This year’s festival theme is 'Upcycled'

The annual Sechelt Arts Festival kicks off on Oct. 13 with an opening reception at the Seaside Centre.

This year’s festival theme is Upcycled, and encourages attendees to “re-imagine local visual art, music, dance, drama, poetry, and heritage in new and creative ways,” according to an official statement by Sechelt mayor Darnelda Siegers.

The Seaside Centre will be the home of the Assemblage art exhibition. Every home tells a story, and this heritage exhibit will depict its many chapters through the end of the festival on Oct. 30.

On Oct. 14, guests are encouraged to re-encounter the Beat Generation’s Jack Kerouac during his centenary year by grooving to live jazz, a dramatic scene from Jackie and Jack, and classic beat poetry.

Then, on Oct. 16, vintage clothing will be featured as part of an upcycled and recycled fashion show hosted by DJ Robby Luvdub.

Details and many additional events are listed at the secheltartsfestival.com website.
