I Tromboni next up in Pender

Five trombones one extraordinary experience.

Five trombones one extraordinary experience.

Formed in 1999, the group now known as the Team Canada of Trombones set out to create a virtuoso ensemble capable of reaching diverse audiences by combining unique arrangements of both well-known and new music with stylish and often humorous delivery. The group incorporates music of many genres into their performances, including baroque, classical, jazz, romantic, contemporary and popular styles.

I Tromboni have played extensively here on the West Coast, including well-received performances at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre and the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and Edmonton's Winspear Centre. The group has taken part in many events including the Banff Summer Music Festival, the Pacific Contact 2005 and Vancouver's Listen Up Festival. The group's debut CD, I Tromboni: There Goes the Neighbourhood, can be heard regularly from coast to coast on CBC radio broadcasts.

When not performing in concert or recording, I Tromboni is dedicated to the musical education of future generations of concert-goers and music lovers, giving master classes and performing over 120 of their educational programs for thousands of students of all ages every year. This new ensemble is raising the bar when it comes to combining artistry with education and entertainment.

Coast resident David Robbins wrote to them on the release of their debut CD: "Congratulations on your CD, There Goes the Neighbourhood, which is so aptly titled for any of us who've lived in apartments with city neighbours allergic to the bass clef! The playing reveals the sound of my favourite instrument in all its glory. Congrats to the members of the quintet for their fine playing and obvious commitment to the instrument we all love."

Audiences are as universally delighted when O Canada transforms itself into Canada's other national anthem, Hockey Night In Canada, as they are bewildered when Flight of the Bumblebee is magically spun out from the bells of trombones. Come join the fun on Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. at the Pender Harbour School of Music next to the Madeira Park government dock. Tickets are $20 at John Henry's in Garden Bay, Harbour Insurance in Madeira Park, Talewind Books in Sechelt and Coast Books in Gibsons. For more information, see www.penderharbourmusic.ca.
