The Sunshine Coast Music Society and the Gibsons United Church are presenting a Hungarian youth choir in performance, after they compete at the Powell River International Choral Kathaumixw from July 5 to 9.
The choir consists of a 35-member group of mid-teenage students from the Zoltán Kodály Primary School in Komló, Hungary. The school’s music faculty was started in 1958 by Kodály and it has been led according to his methods, which have been adopted in schools and music institutions in Canada as well. The school hosts its own international festival and sends its choirs throughout Europe and as far as Japan to perform and compete.
This event – 2:30 pm Sunday, July 10, Gibsons United Church, 724 Trueman Road – promises, as always, to be a highlight for choral music lovers. Indeed, this event may be one of the last opportunities to hear a performance at this venue before the building is acquired by new owners.
Tickets ($15) are available at Laedeli in Sunnycrest Mall (Gibsons) and Strait Music (Sechelt).
