Film
David Roche is excited to step into the world of the film maker. He has written a screenplay (with great mentoring) and he stars in his first movie, directed by Adam Warren. It is entitled Beauty School and is eight minutes long with laughter and heart. It premieres at the Wide Angle Media Film Festival (WAM) at the Roundhouse in Vancouver tonight (Friday), March 23. It also shows again on Sunday evening, March 25. Peace Out
The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association is showing the documentary Peace Out at Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt on Wednesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m.
Peace Out, a feature length documentary film by renowned Canadianfilmmaker Charles Wilkinson, paints a comprehensive picture about resource exploitation in northern B.C. and Alberta. Premiering at the Vancouver International Film Festival it won the "most popular Canadian documentary" people's choice award.It has gone on to be selected at numerous festivals as well as playing to full-house audiences all over the West.
Director Charles Wilkinson and producer Tina Schliesslerwill be on hand to lead a discussion after the film.Doors open at 7 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $6 for students/seniors.
GPAG
The Gibsons Public Art Gallery's (GPAG) annual Young People's Show drew record registration for this month-long exhibition and each young person receives a $10 gift certificate for art supplies from GPAG and generous sponsors:Dr. Mackenzie, Kidzsmart Inc. and the Government of B.C. Direct Access (Gaming). You are invited to visit the gallery (winter hours: Thursdays to Mondays from noon to 4 p.m.)to see the array of talent displayed on the walls. Theatre by satellite
National Theatre of London presents She Stoops to Conquer, Oliver Goldsmith's classic comedy, via HD satellite at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt on Thursday, March 29, at 7 p.m. These London theatre productions usually have creative stage sets and terrific acting. Coming soon
St. Hilda's Church in Sechelt will present a solo piano recital by Coast musician Katherine Hume on Saturday, March 31 as a fundraiser for their ministries. The program includes Ravel's Sonatine and other works by Bach, Debussy and Messiaen. Admission is by donation at a suggested $15. I'll have more about this next week.

The monthly Artesia Coffeehouse is next Friday, March 30, at Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt.
