Home is where the Gala is

Art Beat

Art Crawl participants praised the Gibsons Public Art Gallery’s (GPAG) display of Visions of Home, an exhibition of creative works from over 40 established and emerging Sunshine Coast artists.  All of the works, inspired by the theme of “home,” are on display at the Gallery until the auction on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 5. Proceeds from art sales will be shared equally between GPAG, Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast and participating artists. The exhibition includes work from Greta Guzek, Gordon Halloran, Kim LaFave, Miyuki Shinkai, Dean van’t Schip, Hiroshi Shimazaki, Dolf Vermeulen and many others.

Visions of Home is an experiment with art that proposes a formula: Art + Habitat = Community. Artists have come forward with their contribution. The proceeds aren’t shipped overseas, but stay right in our community, supporting local art and affordable housing. Come to the auction and go home with a fabulous piece of original art. There will be a cash bar and live jazz from Anagram Duo. To help facilitate community wide participation, fundraising through ticket sales is cancelled and the evening festivities will now be admission by donation. Viewing times are Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gala times: Nov. 5, 6 to 9 p.m. Silent auction cutoff: Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. and live auction: Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. For further information, contact Michael Aze at 604-886-0531.
