This past summer, a corps of dedicated volunteers constructed an array of Victorian-themed sets for the (now open) Holiday Market Faire, running until Dec. 17 at the Gibsons Public Market. Featuring juried artisans, including Coast Raven’s Craft, Brenda Silvey Jewelry, Pure, and more. Activities include a festive fashion show, teddy bears’ breakfast and Hanukkah craft-making.
The Holiday Market Faire is the brainchild of Gail Hunt, who envisioned a European-themed event, that would give back to the Sunshine Coast during this holiday season, while offering a low-cost alternative for seasonal activities. Hunt, who is a reputed artisan herself, led an organizing committee with Cathy Jennings, Leslie Nicholls and Beverley McEwan that set about enlisting volunteers, gaining support from Swish, Peggy Sue’s, Gibsons Building Supplies and a coterie of other businesses and individuals to produce a fashion show (Dec. 9), a tree auction (Dec. 16), a solstice lantern-making and parade (Dec. 17) and a number of lively, family-themed events and workshops. A series of local and school choirs, musicians and artists will perform during the Faire, all donating their time and effort.
With Hunt’s determination to make the Faire accessible, admission is by donation and no workshop exceeds $10. All are welcome to come enjoy this inaugural European-themed community event. All event tickets are available at the Market or at gibsonspublicmarket.com
