Guzek art reception

Open house

Potter Laurie Rolland will host her ninth annual open house this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Functionally-based objects as well as major exhibition work will be on display ranging in price from $25 to $2,500. The potter's work is primarily hand-built with interesting textures and surface treatments. Two pieces of her work are now on exhibit as part of the seventh Cheongju International Craft Biennale in South Korea.

Bard workshop

Driftwood Theatre School's Melina Cassidy offers a fun and fresh look at the Bard with an adult and teen (16-plus) workshop this weekend at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons.Aimed at teachers, Shakespeare enthusiasts, budding actors and skilled thespians, the workshop combines fun acting exercises with a vast knowledge of Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre.To register, call Melina at 604-989-3929 or DTS registrar Sandi McGinnis at 604-886-0143 [email protected].

Plastic sandwich

The comedy play by Coast Community Productions, The Man With the Plastic Sandwich, moves from dinner theatre in Sechelt to the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons on Thursday, Nov. 17, and runs for two weekends. Tickets are at Gaia's, Laedeli in Gibsons and Lucy's in Sechelt.

Goddess talk

The Goddess Lives - Both as Reality and as Metaphor is the title of a talk from Elizabeth Blakely (Agnes Toews) at the Sechelt Public Library community room from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. next Friday, Nov. 18. Mountain films

The Banff Mountain Film Festival goes on tour and reaches Gibsons next Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. A selection of best mountain films will be shown at Elphinstone Secondary School and sponsored by the Tetrahedron Outdoor Club. Healing herbs

Author Jane Covernton of Roberts Creek has a new book out, Healing Herbs to Know and Grow, based on her knowledge of local plants. She'll be meeting the public this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Woods Showcase in Sunnycrest Mall.

Country barn dance

The scotch whisky tasting and kitchen ceilidh put on by the SunCoast Harmony Entertainment Society was a great success thanks to the lively crowd, the many volunteer helpers and entertainers, and Ann Law and the Kinsmen.The hall was deemed ideal for smaller events.

Tickets are now on sale for the next event, the group's Country Barn Dance next Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Kinsmen's Hall in Dougall Park in Gibsons. Put on your cowboy clothes and dance with the Classic Country Boys to honky-tonk, rockabilly and country swing. Music for Youth
