The Gibsons Public Art Gallery (GPAG) welcomes Coast artist Megan Dulcie Dill and her new show entitled New Work/Salmon Cycles from July 14 to Aug. 15. You can meet the artist at the opening reception this Saturday, July 16, from 2 to 4 p.m.

This body of work is made up of paintings inspired by the life cycle of salmon - the ecological, economic and cultural significance of their annual return to local rivers. The paintings were intended to provide hope to the challenges present in today's world.

Born in Vancouver, Dill studied art at the Victoria College of Art, the University of Toronto and received a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2004. She went on to further studies in painting at the University of Victoria. Currently, she is involved in several community-based art initiatives while continuing an active studio practice on the Sunshine Coast and dividing her time between Savary Island and Powell River.

The award-winning Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou (Raise the Red Lantern, Ju Dou, Not One Less) directed both productions, with conductor and musical director Zubin Mehta.
