Gospel Rock Fun Event

Art Beat

Come to a fun and informative event on Sunday, March 20 from 1-4 at the Kinsmen Hall in Gibsons and learn about the new plan to save/purchase Block 7 Gospel Rock (from the waterfront to the top of the plateau) for all future generations. Along with speakers, Ken McBride, singer/songwriter and internationally renowned guitarist, will be performing.  The Beachcombers Ukulele Group Sunshine Coast (BUGS) will entertain and there will be displays by Carl Olsen, Rick O’Neil, Pat Ridgway and Gibsons Wildlife Rehab Centre. In the Kids Zone, kids of all ages can create fun stuff, plus complimentary tasty treats, coffee, tea and juice, and cake. Guests will be invited to share their tales of Gospel Rock and create a timeline of its history and our experiences trying to save it. Event is organized by For the Love of Gospel Rock. Over the course of three days (March 24, April 1, 2)  community members from a range of backgrounds will be invited to learn about and experiment with graphic notation, sound composition, gestures and figures to create their graphic score for the one-page score ensemble. A call for participants and more information can be found at: www.laboratorioartssociety.wordpress.com. Françoise Houle (clarinet), Eyvind Kang (viola), Giorgio Magnanensi (conduction), Lisa Cay Miller (keyboards), with visual artists Dean Schutz and Maurice Spira, will facilitate the workshop sessions during which a series of new one-page graphic scores will come to life.

A showroom or guest wall space is also available for rent for up to a month for your special exhibition. Correction

David j Taylor whose show opens at the Arts Centre this week was incorrectly reported as having an Academy Award nomination for his sound work on a film. Taylor says, “While it’s true Wild life was a 2012 nominee, the film itself and most importantly the filmmakers, Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis and The National Film Board of Canada, earned the nomination Best Animated Short Film. I was not a nominee – just a very fortunate Foley recordist who had the great pleasure of working on the film.”

Noon Deadline

Send your notice of arts events by Tuesday at noon for Friday’s newspaper to [email protected] or phone 604-886-4692. Please include a contact person’s phone number or email in your notice.
