Golden art show

Art Beat

Azo Gold, a group show, holds its opening reception this Saturday, April 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery (GPAG).

The show features Veronica Aimone, Teressa Bernard, Sandy Kay, Jane Richardson and Lori Sokoluk — four painters and a sculptor from the Sunshine Coast and the Lower Mainland. This exhibition showcases their work, ranging from acrylic and mixed media paintings to bronze and steel sculpture, all originating from the idea of gold and utilizing the transparency of watercolour, the reflective glow of patina, metallic pigment and leaf, or nickel azo gold paint muted to soft neutrals.

The show runs until April 26. Artists will be at GPAG each weekend holding painting demos and talks.

Landing Gallery

Jen Drysdale and Cindy Cantelon will be the feature artists at the Gibsons Landing Gallery for the month of April. Both are new members of the artists’ co-operative. The exhibit, titled Somewhere Out There, opens this Saturday, April 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. and they will be showing new paintings and small sculptural pieces. The basic theme for the exhibit is connecting to, preserving and respecting our beautiful coastal wilderness and the wildlife (and people) that live in it. Candace Campo joins them on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. to speak through storytelling from a Native perspective.
