David Gogo is bringing his award-winning brand of blues to the Roberts Creek Hall on Saturday, Oct. 1, in a Live Music Society fundraising concert for Dakota Ridge.
Last here in spring 2009, Gogo heated the hall with his blistering licks and soulful vocals, giving us a performance with intensity and passion.
Since then, he's produced two more albums, his 11th titled Soul-Bender featuring five new songs and five covers, including Elmore James's classic "Please Find My Baby" and Procol Harum's "Whiskey Train."
The album was recorded by Rick Salt at Lois Lane Studios in Gogo's hometown of Nanaimo, where five of his previous albums have been produced. Capturing the feel of his incredible live shows, Soul-Bender showcases some of his best guitar and vocal performances, and is adding even more acclaim to an already impressive list of accomplishments.
Gogo is a hard-working blues/rock guitarist and has a history of awards to show for it: three Juno nominations, the Saturday Night Blues' Great Canadian Blues Award for "a lifetime contribution to the blues in Canada," Western Canadian Music Awards' Musician of the Year, and twice named Maple Blues Guitarist of the Year. Over the last couple of decades, he has performed with blues and rock legends B.B. King, Bo Diddley, George Thorogood and ZZ Top, among many others - most recently opening for Johnny Winter.
Touring relentlessly, Gogo has spent most of the year in Canada, with a few trips to the Netherlands just to change it up. He will tour there again this fall in support of the European release of Soul-Bender, and then dazzle the rest of Europe in 2012.
Approximately $10,000 is needed to install a new toboggan slide at Dakota Ridge, and there is no government funding available for this project.
Support local winter recreation and bring your dancing shoes to the Hall. The $20 tickets are available at Lucy's in Sechelt, Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts in Gibsons and MELOmania in Roberts Creek. Doors open at 8:30, show at 9 p.m.
