Family and friends have organized a dance and silent auction to raise funds to help Shannon and Cory Hergott with their expenses through a difficult time.
Cory was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and he and Shannon are currently unemployed while he takes treatment. The dance will be held on Friday, Oct 14 at the Roberts Creek Hall. There will be lots of entertainment: Reg and Lynne with Warren Allan, Bits of String and to top off the evening, great dance music with the Song Butchers. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, available in Gibsons at Laedeli (Hallmark); in Sechelt at Monkeychips, or at the Sechelt Visitor Centre.
The family realizes that citizens of the Sunshine Coast community can become overwhelmed with requests for donations, however, if there is a product, service, or cash donation that you feel able to offer to this cause, they would appreciate it. A cash donation can be deposited to the Royal Bank, account No. 5024104, and made out to Lynne Dickson in Trust for the Hergott Family. Call 604-885-3494 for more information.

Smart is a painter, writer and musician, and she held a show of her own paintings last year at the gallery.
"It's a very humbling experience for such a low-key person asI try to be," Smart said.
The volunteer board manages the GPAG now in is ninth year of operation. Its mandate as a public gallery is exhibitions and education, not necessarily sales.Tosupport this mandate the gallery welcomes donations of art. 101 Art
For the month of October, 101 Office Supply on Cowrie Street in Sechelt, is displaying paintings by Wendy Simmonds. The long time Pender Harbour teacher and artist, has developed a reputation for her marine-themed watercolours, showing frequently on the Lower Mainland as well as locally. Recently, she has been doing more work in acrylics and this year committed to doing more abstract work. This show comprises mostly samples of Simmond's more recent work.
Nostalgia
George Grafton was in his element, singing and telling jokes at The Club venue last Friday in a fabulous Evening of Nostalgia. Apparently, this was the event that everyone was waiting for, as the dance floor was jam packed with dancers gliding to tunes from the 1950s and '60s. Kudos to Jim Taylor for his Elvis set and for offering ladies only dances, and to Owen Pallot who shared a country and western moment with Grafton and Wendy Campbell, Nicole Schroeder, Joy Germaine and Jan Gillis were in fine voice. The event was part of the monthly program from the SunCoast Harmony Entertainment Society. Next event for the group will be a Scotch Whisky Tasting and Ceilidh at the Kinsmen Hall at the end of October. Stay tuned.
