The annual Friends of the Gallery (FOG) exhibition returns to the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre's Doris Crowston Gallery in Sechelt with an opening reception on Jan. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Members of the Arts Council can submit one artwork in any medium. It's usually a diverse and interesting show.
Vaudeville returns
Auditions for the next season of Vaudeville take place on Jan. 7 and 8.
The theme is Olde-Fashioned Music Hall and singers, dancers, actors and comedians are wanted, with no experience necessary. To book an appointment with Vaudeville's musical director, phone Miss Berni G at 604-886-6827 and she can give you a time and location for the audition.
Portraits
The final version of Portraits: Found and Taken, a book of photos by Tim McLaughlin, is now available to the public in a duotone edition.
The book features more than 75 portraits of artists, musicians, writers and others taken by McLaughlin over the past three years, including many Sunshine Coast familiar faces. The first 100 copies sold are numbered and signed by the artist. CD release
Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis are releasing their new CD, Good Road Home: Stanton/Paradis, with a performance at Coopers Green Hall on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 available at the Halfmoon Bay General Store and Welcome Woods Market. It promises to be a fabulous night. The opening act will be Guido Heistek, a well-known ukulele/guitarist/singer.
Opera

Big paintings
Artist Mary Jean Brown is offering art classes in Big Painting starting on Wednesday, Jan. 15, for eight weeks at Windows on the Water located at Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons. Give her a call at 604-886-3849 to sign up.
GPAG thanks
Gibsons Public Art Gallery wishes to thank all those who contributed to the basket for donations of food and money for the food banks in Sechelt and Gibsons.
Musician Jim Taylor's daughter, who was present at Lights in the Landing at GPAG, collected more than $111 for the Gibsons food bank. We thank her for her wonderful donation.
