The Coast String Fiddlers (CSF) will host dancers from Belgium this month. They will welcome again Back of the Moon, a Scottish band popular with many people on the Sunshine Coast. All three groups will perform at The Club on Thursday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. for an International Ceilidh, an eclectic night of music, song and dance. Then on Saturday, July 22, at 8 p.m. at the Heritage Theatre, as part of the SOPA series, Cie Ph/f/ase and the Coast String Fiddlers collaborate in a multi-media performance including DSdanse.

Cie Ph/f/ase, founded in 1997 and directed by Saskia Goetghebeur, are non-professional dancers who are trained in classical ballet, tap dance, modern jazz, contemporary and character dance, often using multi-media. They have performed extensively in their home country, Belgium, as well as Germany, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, France and Scotland. The Sunshine Coast's own DSdanse, directed by Dominique Hutchinson, is a community-based dance company. The dancers are part of a supportive, creatively challenging and non-competitive dance environment. Each dancer leaves her other roles aside (mother, student, community member) and for a few hours a week becomes the fluid, blending contemporary dancers of DSdanse.

The CSF, in addition to playing traditional and new Celtic music, have also branched out onto the exciting stage of accompanying dancers. Most recently, they accompanied the Pro Arte dancers in West Vancouver, and while in Scotland at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF), they played for Ballet Prague Junior. Their first dance collaboration was with DSdanse in 2004, when they played in their performance "Heartstrings."

Cie Ph/f/ase and the CSF met at AIYF and are very excited to be collaborating on the Sunshine Coast. The addition of DSdanse makes this an extra special creative experience.
