Fiddlers impress in Vancouver

The Coast String Fiddlers (CSF) wowed Vancouver during Celtic Fest March 17 and 18.

The Coast String Fiddlers (CSF) wowed Vancouver during Celtic Fest March 17 and 18. The two youngest groups of the CSF, directed by Chelsea Sleep, attended this year's festival with new shirts and endless energy and enthusiasm for the music they love to play.

The Fiddleheads performed in the Youth Variety Show on Saturday at the Tom Lee Music hall, with Irish and Scottish dance groups and the North Shore Celtic Ensemble. The final performance of the day combined the Fiddleheads with the dynamic North Shore Celtic Ensemble and well known Victoria fiddler Daniel Lapp, for an outstanding performance of Tamlins.

The group also made an impression on Nova Scotia native and Cape Breton fiddler extraordinaire Ashley MacIsaac, as he caught sight of them during his workshop in Tom Lee Music. Sleep had the opportunity to play alongside MacIsaac Saturday evening, where he was enquiring about the group and referred to them as the "bad to the bow" kids because of the slogan on the new shirts.

Sunday morning, the Fiddleheads were joined by the youngest group, the Tune Loonies, to take part in the fourth annual Celtic Fest parade along Granville and Howe streets, and finished the day with a 45-minute outdoor performance on the main stage of Granville, to an audience of thousands.
