This weekend

Premiering this Saturday at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt, the SC Dance Society presents The Source Dance Company's excerpts from The Show (at 2 and 7:30 p.m.). The show features several alumni dancers including Sammie Broomhall from Sechelt. See www.sunshinecoastdance.com for more.

Also this Saturday, hear the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra at St. Hilda's Church at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.

Edwards course

The well-known B.C. muralist, instructor and graphic designerBruce Edwards (www.BruceEdwardsArtwork.com)will teach a class, sketching and painting for journals, every Saturday in May, from 10 a.m. to noon, starting May 4 at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery. Film society

The SC Film Society invites you to Holy Motors (France 2012) by director Leos Carax in French with English subtitles. It screens at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons on Monday, May 6.

The film begins with Carax himself awakening in a hotel room. He opens a door and enters a theatre, where an audience awaits.Although Carax says this is not a film about cinema, references abound.The protagonist, Mister Oscar (Denis Lavant), journeys across Paris in a white stretch limo, donning disguise after disguise to become a beggar, a beast, a hit man, a concerned father and an ex-lover.

Film is at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7. Tickets at the door: members: $5, single event: $8.

Harbour Arts

The new Harbour Arts group of artists, Ann Willsie, Nancy Hache and Donna Swain, are taking registrations for their spring series of painting workshops.

The first class, painting the landscape, for beginner and intermediate, starts May 11 and 12 at their latest location, Studio 201 (former GPAG location), #201 - 287 Gower Point Rd. To register call Donna at 604-885-5047 or Nancy at 604-741-3844.

Fundraiser

The West Sechelt Play-ground Enhancement Com-mittee is hosting a fundraiser at the Lighthouse Pub on Thursday, May 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. with live music performed by Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis. Guests will also enjoy a complimentary burger and beverage, 50/50 draw, silent auction and some special surprises. Tickets are $20 each and are available at Trail Bay Source for Sports, Sol Mar Salon and Spa and West Sechelt Elementary School. Tickets can also be reserved by emailing [email protected].

Art for Inner I

Art for the Inner I No. 4 is on Sunday, May 12, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Falkner fundraiser

Judy Lynne, the organizer of the first annual Sunshine Coast Neil Falkner Outward Bound Youth Fundraiser, is calling for volunteers and silent auction donations. These fundraisers have been raising money for years in Vancouver and Whistler to send youth at risk on challenging, life-altering Outward Bound wilderness adventures. Music, performance and a silent auction will be held at the Roberts Creek Hall on May 25. It will be a fun time for those willing to volunteer to help with this good cause. Call Judy at 604-886-7334 if you can help.

The Pender Harbour Music Society puts their Chamber Music Festival tickets on sale on June 14 for their Aug. 15 to 18 festival (members get first choice on May 31).

Correction

In last week's Coast Reporter article, No Ordinary Séance, it was implied that the Peninsula Players has disbanded. We are all pleased to find out that Peninsula Players has not disbanded, but are simply in a hiatus. Driftwood Players looks forward to future Peninsula Players productions.
